Many concerns can be resolved more quickly and effectively through informal discussion and early intervention. If you believe you are experiencing harassment, and the matter does not involve a serious or criminal offence, you are encouraged to consider the following informal options before pursuing a formal reporting process:

  • Speak directly to the individual, where you feel comfortable doing so, to explain that the behaviour is unwanted, provide examples, and describe the impact it has had on you. In many cases, this may be sufficient to resolve the matter.
  • Seek informal support or assistance if you do not feel able to address the matter yourself. This may include support from your line manager, HR Business Partner, Trade Union representative, a trusted colleague, student support, or the Mediation Service. Support may include facilitated conversations, mediation, or assistance in communicating your concerns.

If the behaviour is serious, may be criminal, or cannot be resolved informally, you should consider the formal reporting options available to disclose and address your concerns.

See other support options on the how to get support page.
