Emergency: Report and Support is not an emergency service. If there is an immediate risk of serious harm please call the emergency services on 999 (dial 9999 from a University extension). Please also notify the University’s Security and Response Team on 01334 46 8999 (dial 8999 from a University extension ).
You can help in the following ways:
  • Listen. Taking the time to listen and accept what they say about what has happened can help. This Listening Guide may be useful.
  • Signpost options. Ask them if they are okay to talk through possible options for support or how they might report what has happened. Do not take on the role of a counsellor or therapist.
  • Help them report. If they want to, and you feel able to, you can help them report the incident or incidents.
  • Look after your own wellbeing. Check in with yourself after the conversation and access the help or support you need. Life Span have produced a guide on practising self-care that may be useful.
