Report + Support is an option for those who do not require an immediate response. It is not an emergency service. If you, or another, are in immediate danger call 999 (dial 9999 from a University extension). Please also notify the University’s Security and Response Team on 01334 46 8999 (dial 8999 from a University extension ).
If you know someone who has experienced or is experiencing physical violence, you can help in the following ways:
  • Listen. Taking the time to listen and talk about what has happened can help.
  • Signpost options. Ask them if they’re okay to talk through some possible options for support or how they might report what has happened. Do not take on the role of a counsellor or therapist.
  • Help them report. If they want to, and you feel able to, you can help them report the incident or incidents.
  • Look after your own wellbeing. Check in with yourself after the conversation and access the help or support you need. Life Span have produced a guide on practising self-care that may be useful.
